Urgent: Protect Restorative Practices Funding – Contact Your Legislator Today

We need your voice! The Minnesota Legislature established the Office of Restorative Practices in 2023, recognizing the importance of restorative justice in strengthening communities, reducing recidivism, and supporting those who have been harmed. However, the Governor’s proposed budget threatens to cut the $5 million in funding by 60% in the next biennium—before we’ve even had our first grant cycle.

Minnesotans have already demonstrated a deep commitment to restorative practices. Our first round of funding requests totaled $22 million from approximately 60 applicants across 87 counties—far exceeding available resources. This overwhelming response highlights the need for sustained investment in this critical work.

We’re asking you to take a few minutes to contact your legislators and urge them to reject these funding cuts. Legislators need to hear directly from you—the people who see firsthand the power of restorative justice.
